Values, Mission & Vision
Our steering committee met three Sundays in August to develop our new values, mission statement and vision for Downtown Unity Circle. Here are the drafts for the mission statement, values and vision statement. The final versions may change. The work will be presented to the congregation in a Sunday meeting later in September. If you would like to comment, send your emails here.
Mission Statement: Downtown Unity Circle is a spiritually adventuresome community that inspires each other to find the Christ within and supports one another in living the principles Jesus taught.
Values: We behold the Christ
within all people. This belief leads our community to
- act in integrity
- provide safety and acceptance
- be teachable and courageous
- demonstrate reverence for all creation
- dedicate ourselves to loving service
Our Vision: Austin's Downtown
Unity Circle will:
- be a vibrant healthy community that attracts people who
explore spiritual ideas and growth
- embrace all people of all ages and provide for their
spiritual unfoldment
- be a vital source of community spiritual development
through compelling programs
- be a place of peace and beauty
Acceptance of Everyone
We welcome everyone. Your race, spiritual beliefs, sexual orientation, or whatever some church may once told you made you unwanted, doesn't matter to us. We believe we are all One in the eyes of God and therefore, we should act accordingly.
And you don't need a stylish suit or dress either, because dress is casual. Shorts and tee are just find in Austin's summer heat.
Unity has a system of beliefs that make it unique. You can learn more about them on the Association of Unity Churches website. But we aren't pushy about your having to believe everything, 100% our way. In fact, we welcome the integration of compatible beliefs. Hence, you get to choose and be responsible for your own spiritual path.
Music and Fun
One final note, we like music and love to have fun. Every week we try to span the range of being meditative to rocking. We are joyful, and sometime we get a bit loud. So, if your okay with loosening up and having church be enjoyable, come join us!
